hey there judy,

and welcome to the group! sorry to hear about your husband... you might want to post something about your story in a blog for the other members to read about to get a more balanced view, but i can tell you from my own experience that recovery can be a long road. the initial recovery period - simply for your body to get rid of the chemicals you are filled with during the operation - is about 6 weeks. the physical recovery from having your chest opened is a good 3 months. the psychological recovery is an ongoing process and i am not sure you ever really get over that. like i say, tell the other members your story in a blog post and ask some questions in the forums - everyone here is more than willing to help!
