Aortic dissection, aortic aneurysm - The aorta - Life after an aortic dissection

Sunday 22nd April 2012

Did a 200 mile round trip on my BMW R1200RT motorcycle today.

This is the longest trip I've done since my AD 22 months ago. A mixture of motorway, A-roads and country lanes. Wasn't too bad. First 100 miles was pretty easy. Stopped for one hour for lunch then headed back home. Hands were a bit tired and bum was a bit sore by time I got home. I need to get more riding practice in, doing longer trips, in preparation for my trip to Italy at the end of May, as I will have to be riding 250-300 miles a day.

Last weekend,19th/20th May, I did the trip from Southampton to Cromer on the North Norfolk coast to visit my sister. 217 miles each way. Weather was cold and damp but the ride was enjoyable. Next week I'm off to Italy via France and Switzerland.

Hi Greg,

NO they wouldn't take me this time. I asked my GP to book me on it & called the organiser & was told i was to high risk.....mmm? My Surgeon gave me the all clear, but i didn't push it, maybe i should have.I have a bike & rower at home, but have never got into them.  Still the bike will get me out, once it stops raining!

Take care

Harry,

Did you not get yourself on a cardiac rehabilitation course? I'm on one that has a weekly gym session with cycling machines, cross-trainers, rowing machines, etc.

Greg,

Glad to see your doing well. I just got myself a Mountain bike to see if i can get to that next level of fitness/stamina i am missing. Walking is fine, but i feel maybe an extra push would better suit my recovery.

Let us know how you get on.

Rgds
