Aortic dissection, aortic aneurysm - The aorta - Life after an aortic dissection

17 hours to go and counting!  I'm first on the list at 8:00am tomorrow.

They got some good images from my echo this morning so I hope they will be useful.

My aortic valve does leak a bit but I hope they will be able to repair it.  Not sure I like the idea of a ticking valve like yours, Graeme but I guess it's a lot better than nothing at all!

I don't really know a lot more, about what they are going to do, than I was told after I was first admitted.  I believe the tear stretches across all three major vessels off the arch and i know the aorta is enlarged pretty much from the root and through the arch.  If I was operating, I think I would go for a complete root and arch replacement after repairing the valve.  Thankfully, someone with a bit more experience is operating!  I expect i will find out everything tonight!

This is probably my last communication until after my op.  (feels a bit like i am going around the darkside of the moon!)

You are in my thoughts and will continue to be until I hear from you again. And more than likely for the rest of your long long life.

Our bodies might take a lickin but our spirits can't be beaten!  I love your analogy to the dark side of the moon.  Thank God there is the other side (the bright side) to get back to and if you need a little help, you can always find us here to kick you in the butt in the right direction :)

Just listen for us --- we'll be the ones cheering you on!!!

Hi David. Will catch up with you when you come back from the dark side of the moon. I cannot imagine how you must be feeling because i did not wait from surgery. Transfered too Papworth and no waiting. I was not told i was even going for surgery. You and your family are in my Prayers. Catch up when you are back from the moon. God bless. Carol. :)
