Stress test and ultrasound of both stents today at the cardiologist. Stress test revealed that blood pressure is well configured. Level 2 stress test (200 Watts) had to stop after 10 minutes because legs felt like like lead. Both stents look tickadeboo, although the second one is causing a little turbulence in blood flow.

Interval for check ups increased to once a year instead of every 6 months.

Weird fact: the artery that feeds the face is not considered important by doctors…

Sorry, had to vent!

I don't know who to talk too and I wish I had somebody that understood in my life. I'm going to vent a little here and hope it helps. I'm just so tired about being tire. It's not the dissection that is keeping me down but this stupid leaky aortic valve. I'm exhausted all the time, I can't even walk from one room to another without running out of breath. My heart feels like it's in overdrive whenever I'm doing anything active at all(including just standing up) I'm dizzy all day long and at times… Continue

The zipper, curiosity? disgust?

I would like to share with ever body an experience from last Saturday night.

A bridal shower was held for one of my cousins who is getting married in June. Of course, I attended. The guess were all women, and most of them were my relatives.
I was wearing a nice dress with a low cut neckline. As we know, especially the women, unless we wear a turtle neck our scars are…

Cardiologist Appt. 12.04.2010

I had a cardiologist appointment this morning and was given the all clear for the aorta - no changes since the last check up 6 months ago. ECG was also ok, but the one thing that struck me as strange was my blood pressure: 110/80.

I guess it was a leftover from the blowout on Friday ;)

Tricky Dicky

I thought that I had better start using the forums correctly - so I need a blog. Firstly this is for you all to pore over, secondly it is for me to see any changes over the course of time.

Bear with me as I am likely to mess this up! If it turns into an incoherent mess held together by a bad idea I guess I can delete it...

Have fun,

INR - 11.04.10

I was dreading this one, but since getting my coat back after Friday (and hence the new test strips for the CoaguChek) I measured today at 3.0. Took a good few minutes to get the bleeding to stop. I also think I hit a bit of scar tissue from a previous reading because it hurt like buggery! Ho hum... Will measure again on Tuesday to make sure...

A Survivors Zipper

A Survivors Zipper by Kimberlee Jones

What do you see, when you look down at your scar? The one we lovenly

call our zipper.

Are you like me? Are there times you look down and your eyes fill with

tears? Times when the fear comes back and you wonder if the end is near.

Do you sometimes feel like a time bomb that is just waiting to go off?

But without a countdown you… Continue

My Story

My story: I was 34 weeks pregnant(12/14/05) and developed what I that

was indigestion(a small pressure feeling in the middle of my chest) Now

it was not painful or really bothering me but I could not take my mind

off it. I called both my midwife and my doctor and both advised me to

take some maloxx. After being awake a...ll night because my brain was in

overdrive when my boyfriend woke up the next morning around 7am or so I

told him I was going to try to take a nap… Continue

A good example of the Public and the Media understanding (NOT) of Aortic Dissection

Hi all. I subscribe to an auto Google search for 'Aortic Dissection' that throws up any media stories on Aortic Dissection for the UK. This link - about the East Anglian Air Ambulance - to quite an incredible story - about a young mum to be (Nina Whear) who in April 2009 suffered an Aortic Dissection as she was being prepped for the birth of her twins - sadly demonstrates just how little is know about Aortic Dissection in the UK.

I have included a screen grab of the…

Genetic the GGG (Giant Genetic Genie) about to escape the test tube... & change our lives forever??

If you have not read the precursor forum posts to this blog about genetic screening - it would be wise to do so this blog is the continuation - and expansion - and projection - of maybe things to come. Maybe good things to come in relation to screening for AD. Or maybe not. As the 'Genie in the…

Norv's Story I'm not sure whether it was a type A or B but here goes....

I'm a 45 year old guy from Nottingham, who is currently unemployed and I had what i call my episode really on the 24 Nov 2009.

I was at home chatting to a friend on the phone, and felt like i had been hit hard between my shoulder blades and in my chest, this lasted for 5 mins then went away. I told my friend about it but we both concluded that this was probably indigestion. About 10 minutes later the pain returned times 10, I could barely stand and had broken out in a cold sweat, I… Continue

Marion's Story Type B AD

It took me a while for me to get round to sharing my story, writing it down seems somehow to give my experience substance, but if we don’t talk about it who will. I am a successful 52 year old woman living in a small village in the north of England; I have 4 children, 6 grandchildren and hopefully no more on the way.

I woke up on June 6th 2008, life was good my new business was growing and after years of working hard to bring up my family, my husband and I were on our own and looking… Continue

Type A aortic dissection 17th September 2008

Hi I am Patrick Gethin

I live in the UK(Shropshire ) originally from Scotland . My Aortic dissection happened on 17th September 2008.I had just had my 49th birthday on 16th! I was in a business meeting being held at a local hotel. The meeting broke for coffee and I took the opportunity go go out for some fresh air as I was feeling strange. no pain just like my blood pressure was up and a bit faint. I sat outside when the Duty Manager passed going back into the hotel and he said I didn't… Continue

My husband and his AD

I am still finding my way around this site so excuse mistakes.

My husband Peter suffered from an Aortic Dissection type A last october. He was taken ill at work suddenly dispite being fit never smoking and eating healthily, he was just 49. In hospital they nearly cost him his life by diagnosing pulmonary embolism and treating him with Heparin. It was 5 days before someone decided to do a ct scan. Within hours he was transferred to a specialist hospital and endured almost 14 hours of… Continue
