Aortic dissection, aortic aneurysm - The aorta - Life after an aortic dissection

Had a bit of a scare.  Couldnt get to sleep and around 2am realised my heart was really fast and really irregular, stupidly I lay there for about 2 hrs willing it to settle down.  Eventually got up made a cup of tea and by 4am it had settled.

Hubby knew nothing about this (sound sleeper to say the least). Anyway I decided to call in at the walk in clinic in the village, the nurse advised us to go straight to A&E so we drove to Wythenshawe where they've got all my scans.  I was very impressed with them but when they decided I should be Nil By Mouth in case I needed surgery I had a bit of a melt down.

Anyway the repeated CT scan shows that the aneurysm hasnt changed in the last 5 months and the ecg and blood tests show no evidence of heart attack.  So we came home knackered at 9pm having left the house at 10am.  Still non the wiser as to what it was all about.  Without capturing it there's no way of knowing if it was an episode of Atrial Fibrillation.

I have noticed that lying on my left side made my heart a little irregular so I'm wondering if thats whats happened.  Anyone else had anything like this happen to them?

Its really hard on partners isnt it.

Good news on the palpitations(I get those from to time, they told me my heart just has an extra beat here and there) Sorry to hear about the bypass failure. Don't let it get you down, my valve was repaired during AD surgery and didn't hold up(had to replace valve 8yrs later) It can be overwhelming and frustration.  Just remember, you got this!  Take one day at a time. Oh and as for the backache...I'm not a good person to ask, I have had 2 prior surgeries on upper back/neck and 2 on lower back, so back ache is a huge part of my life.

*hugs*

Hi Kimberlee - how are you? I'm still feeling in limbo, not had any more palpitations but I have had my angiogram in preparation for the surgery. The good news is that my coronary arteries are in good nik, the odd news is that the single artery bypass that I had done at the time my aortic valve was replaced never worked.  Apparently the blood continued to flow happily through the narrowed artery and the bypass has just closed up (now described as vestigial).  I'm waiting for another appt with the surgeon to discuss the procedure and get listed.  I'm getting quite a lot of backache now - have you noticed anything like that?  I cant quite believe that I need surgery but I dont suppose its sensible to say lets wait a while. Let me know how you're doing.
