Aortic dissection, aortic aneurysm - The aorta - Life after an aortic dissection
Well I'm home after a hemi arch repair and single artery bypass graft. Bit of a roller coaster, off my head hallucinating for a couple of days followed by listening to two docs discussing me at the end of the bed to glean that I bled post op, needed massive transfusions of blood and frozen plasma and apparent had a cardiac arrest to boot! I look forward to a debrief with my surgeon at my post op appt.
Developed AF after a week (apparently common) but unfortunately developed a severe…Continue
Hi Guys I'm just off to Wythenshawe Hospital to book in for surgery on my aneurysm. As I'm already on warfarin I have to go in 3 days early to come off warfarin and go on the shorter acting heparin.
The procedure will either be a dacron graft to the ascending aorta or if it may be more extensive needing a new valve and root, apparently they dont know until they get in there.
Fingers crossed I'll be home in 2 weeks and on the mend. Hope you're all keeping well. xxx
Had a bit of a scare. Couldnt get to sleep and around 2am realised my heart was really fast and really irregular, stupidly I lay there for about 2 hrs willing it to settle down. Eventually got up made a cup of tea and by 4am it had settled.
Hubby knew nothing about this (sound sleeper to say the least). Anyway I decided to call in at the walk in clinic in the village, the nurse advised us to go straight to A&E so we drove to Wythenshawe where they've got all my scans. I was…Continue
Well definitely no sugar coating. I need a graft in the ascending aorta and the first part of the arch, it can be done in one procedure but the valve will have to come out and a new one put in. Estimated 10% mortality rate, 5% stroke risk + 2% infection risk + risk of post op bleeding and return to theatre. This information swiftly followed by what to do in the event of a searing pain in my back! I think the worse news was that it can happen again further along the aorta, dear God I cant do…Continue
I had a mechanical AVR 5 yrs ago and have just been told that I have an aneurysm that requires surgery. I have an appointment on 9th Jan with a surgeon at Wythenshawe hospital. It was originally spotted on an echo at my FU appt and I've now had a CT scan which has been converted into a 3D image in order to decide on the best option. I'm reading your stories and thinking how courageous you all are. I know that I'm lucky that this has been found and it'll be an elective procedure rather than…Continue
