at the weekend i was intermittently tachycardic and my resting pulse has been around the 100 mark since then. i went to see my doctor on monday and he took some blood and sent it off for analysis. the results came back today and showed positive for some sort of infection (elevated CRP values - mine was 9.5 mg/l and normally it should be under 5). tomorrow morning i am at the cardiologist in order to rule out a bacterial infection on the heart valve.
i'll keep you all…

so, i was doing a bit (well, actually i have been putting it off for quite a while so it turned out to be quite a lot) of filing and stumbled upon my first ever cat scan pictures 6 months post-op. unfortunately, i either gave my doctor or the consultant i went to see in the uk the CD with the pictures on, but i will take the paper copies to work tomorrow and scan them in (i can only do A4 at home and these are A3). what i find interesting to see are the mechanical valve, dacron conduit and…

Catherine Withrow said… Thanks Richard for the welcome. I've browsed the site a bit and see that everyone is a wealth of information. I am coming up on my one year surgery anniversary next month. I had endovascular repair of descending aortic aneurysm and aortic dissection. My condition was accidentally discovered when I had a minor cardiac surgery for an electrical problem. I actually experienced the aortic tear three months prior to my surgery but managed to function very well. Am experiencing a very slow recovery and that prompted my visit to this site. Hoping to learn from everyone.

Samantha Jane Norman said… Hi Richard,
Thanks very much for your warm welcome. I have to admit I have never used a blog or such a site before and so it may take me a while to get properly involved! My story is at the age of 42 they discovered a type A dissection the entire length of my aorta, and three anuerisms, 9cm at the arch then 6cms and a 4.9cms infra renal one. Long story as my first surgery had complications, I still have the infra renal one being monitored. At some point I will posy my full tale. In the meantime thanks again for your welcome, I am looking forward to being involved with people who can really understand!

Dawn Gilling said… Hi Richard,
I had a chronic type B aortic dissection in March 1999. It was misdiagnosed and was not operated on until a year later in April 2000. My surgery took 13 hours and I had my aorta repaired with a Dacron graft from my left subclavian artery down to my aortic bifurcation. Prof Bonser from Queen Elizabeth Hospital carried out the surgery. It is now 12 years later and the last part of my aorta that was left has dilated and I am waiting for my aortic root to be repaired any day now. Sorry but I haven't had time to find my way round this site yet but hope to add some more detail soon. Regards
Dawn
Tom Whittaker said… Hi Richard!
Many Thanks for the kind welcome. I look forward to getting myself situated and familiar with the site and becoming a regular contributor. I'm very pleased to see AD is an active site, not somewhere that was created and then fizzled out due to loss of interest. I'll get working on posting my experience to my blog and perhaps someone might get something from it.
Best Regards,
Tom
Sandra A. Ravis said… Thank you Richard. I think my situation was very rare. I was told that there have only been 187 cases of Celiac Artery Aneurysm in all of medical history. I was wondering if anyone out there has lost this artery and spleen? Does anyone have terrible digestive problems after surgery? What is the recovery time for the average AAA surgery? I am already 5 months into recovery and still having digestive problems and my stamina is not what it used to be. What are other people experiencing?
