Aortic dissection, aortic aneurysm - The aorta - Life after an aortic dissection
Elaine Howlin has not received any gifts yet
Hi all
I went to the hospital today for my latest check up. The news was both good and not so good. The Consultant checked my CT scan and confirmed what we already knew ie that the descending dissection was clearly still there, but that the diameter of the aortic arch (descending ) was 4.4. He said that further surgery would be required when it reached 5, The good news is that it could take 10 years to grow to that size although it could be a lot quicker. He ended the consultation by…

Hi everyone
I feel particularly angry and frustrated today about what has happened over the past few months so I think it is time to offload some of the anger and channel it more productively.Unfortunately for you that means you get to hear all the things that frustrate me!!
Before the AD I was working full time as a nurse in a very busy department,I seemed to thrive on stressful situations but definitely got stressed out when I couldn't change things the managers had made…

Hi everyone
Just thought I would check in with you guys as I have been having some visual problems which I now attribute to Amiodarone medication I am taking. I have researched this drug and it really has some horror stories which have persuaded me to stop the tablet and take my chances that I will get some abnormally fast heart rhythms in the future although by the look of it the medication stays in your system for months! Did any of you start off on this tablet. I know the Docs have…

Hi everyone,Just thought I would update you all on my progress which seems to be good.I flew to Portugal for a weeks holiday last week and had a great time. I hardly thought about the AD and what had happened as I was too busy people watching. No one seemed to take any notice of my scar which I was concerned about but as I watched behind my sunglasses I realised quite quickly that it was not the case at all. I was very lucky with my holiday insurance as my husband has a group policy which we…

Elaine,
just a note from Celia's husband. I'm afraid to say Celia passed away on the 14h October during the night when her aneurysm ruptured. Its taken me a while to trace her email accounts. Thank you for welcoming her into the group, please pass my thanks to Graeme for his help as well.
regards,
Stewart
hey, thanks for asking Elaine, well I had a pre op assessment, had a row with the anethetist as he scared the crap out of me, told me the 'op would kill me.so I sent a complaint in, I also complained that they don't do the op' in my health board, and for the fact that they were holding back because of my other conditions, anyway, when I saw the consultant I told him and said that I wanted something done, he said I was suitable for endovascular repair but would have to send me to another area, so I will have to be assessed all over again, so Forth valley health board are gonna get another letter off me!! I am at war!!! My GP knew I had made a complaint and was rather cool with me, hell, if he had an aneurism 5.8 x 5.7 I don't think he would be so smart!! I am totally - excuse the French - pissed off with them all. So I more waiting to do, I think they hope it'll blow before they have to do anything. Trying to keep cool, and reading all of my records which sent them insane but I wanted to know what they are saying. That's me at the moment and cutting a long story short, but will let you know of knew developments.....Thanks again, so much, for asking.....
Celia
xx
